Bolivia ends ties with Israel over “crimes against humanity” in Gaza

GAZA,(Palestine Foundation Information Center)Bolivia’s government severed diplomatic relations with Israel on Tuesday, accusing it of carrying out “crimes against humanity” in Gaza.

“Bolivia decided to break diplomatic relations with the state of Israel in repudiation and condemnation of the aggressive and disproportionate Israeli military offensive taking place in the Gaza Strip,” Freddy Mamani, Bolivia’s deputy foreign minister, said at a news conference.

“If Israel does not stop the massacre of the Palestinian people, we cannot remain there,” Petro wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

María Nela Prada, Bolivia’s minister of the presidency who is acting foreign minister, accused Israel of “committing crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip against the Palestinian people.”

She called on Israel to “cease attacks in the Gaza Strip that have already resulted in thousands of civilian casualties and the forced displacement of Palestinians.”

The Hamas Movement appreciated the Bolivian step. “We highly value the courageous stance of the Bolivian government, which decided to sever its diplomatic relations with the Zionist occupation entity in light of its fascist aggression, crimes and heinous massacres against our people in the Gaza Strip.”

In a statement, Hamas urged the Arab and Islamic countries, which have ties with the Israeli regime, to end their relations with the occupation state over its war crimes in Gaza.

In a related context, the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, and his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, announced almost in parallel their decision to call their ambassadors in Israel for consultation because the Israeli regime violated the international humanitarian law in Gaza.

Gabriel Boric was the first to share a post on Tuesday announcing his decision to call the Chilean ambassador to Israel, Jorge Carvajal, for consultation following the growing massacres committed by Israeli forces in Gaza.

“Given the unacceptable violations of international humanitarian law that Israel has incurred in the Gaza Strip, as the Government of Chile we have resolved to call the Chilean ambassador to Israel, Jorge Carvajal, to Santiago for consultations,” Boric wrote in a post on social media platform X.

“Chile strongly condemns and observes with great concern that these military operations – which at this point in their development entail collective punishment of the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza – do not respect fundamental norms of International Law, as demonstrated by the more than eight thousand civilian victims, mostly women and children,” he added.

A few minutes later, the Colombian president published that his government also summoned diplomat Margarita Eliana Manjarrez Herrera.

“I have decided to call our ambassador to Israel for consultation. If Israel does not stop the massacre of the Palestinian people, we cannot be there,” he said.
