Haneyya asks UN chief to pressure for halt to Israel’s attacks on Gaza

DOHA, (The Palestine Information Centre)Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya sent on Friday an urgent letter to UN Secretary-general Antonio Guterres asking him to pressure an end to Israel’s brutal aggression against the Gaza Strip and its population.

In his letter, Haneyya briefed the UN secretary-general on the horrific Israeli crimes and violations which the Palestinian citizens in Gaza are exposed, describing them as “war crimes in accordance with the Fourth Geneva Convention.”

Haneyya also pointed to the recent decision that was taken by the Israeli war minister about imposing a tight siege on Gaza and preventing the entry of any type of supplies and goods, including fuel, food, and medical needs.

The Hamas leader urged Guterres to intervene to have Israel, as an occupying power, immediately stop its deadly and devastating attacks on Gaza and to abide by its obligations under international humanitarian law.

He highlighted the Palestinian people’s right to continue their struggle for liberation, independence, and the establishment of the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with the relevant international resolutions.
