129 days of Israeli aggression leave Jenin in ruins, damages exceed $300 million

JENIN  (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have continued their assault on the city of Jenin and its refugee camp for the 129th consecutive day on Thursday, inflicting widespread destruction and economic collapse. According to local officials, the damage caused by the ongoing aggression has exceeded $300 million, with the IOF continuing to carry out raids, arrests, and military operations across the area.

Jenin refugee camp came under heavy gunfire once again today, scenes that have become disturbingly routine. The IOF deployed additional reinforcements and remains heavily stationed in the camp and surrounding towns.

Special forces have reportedly stormed homes in various neighborhoods and villages in the Jenin governorate, including the eastern sector of the city, while converting civilian homes into military posts.

Jenin Mayor Mohammed Jarrar confirmed that the destruction from the Israeli onslaught includes the complete demolition of over 600 housing units and severe damage to hundreds more, leaving them uninhabitable.

He warned that the Jenin camp will need to be entirely rebuilt, noting that the IOF has prevented municipal teams from entering the area to assess the damage to infrastructure such as sewage networks and utilities.

According to a municipal study, the reconstruction of destroyed housing and infrastructure will require approximately $160 million.

The IOF has also destroyed roads, water systems, electricity lines, and sewage facilities, in addition to setting homes on fire and demolishing parts of residential buildings. The scale of destruction has brought Jenin’s economy to the brink of collapse. Over the past four months, 1,200 merchants have gone bankrupt, and 4,000 workers have lost their livelihoods.

Jarrar noted that Jenin used to welcome between 50,000 to 70,000 daily shoppers from nearby villages, towns, and 1948 territories. That number has plummeted due to IOF road closures and continuous raids.

In response, the municipality has launched an emergency recovery plan that includes repairing main roads to enable access to the city, restoring essential services, and pushing for the reopening of the Jalameh checkpoint. Key roads such as Nazareth Street, Al-Bayader Street, and the route to Ibn Sina Hospital have been repaved to facilitate movement.

At Jenin Government Hospital, access remains limited due to IOF-erected barriers and the destruction of nearby roads. Jarrar confirmed that only minimum levels of water and electricity are being delivered to maintain critical medical operations. Ambulance access remains obstructed.

The humanitarian toll continues to grow. Around 22,000 Palestinians, nearly a quarter of Jenin’s population, have been displaced from the camp and surrounding areas. Basic services such as healthcare, sanitation, and housing have been severely disrupted.

Since the start of the aggression, the IOF has arrested nearly 1,000 Palestinians from Jenin and Tulkarem, many of whom remain in detention. At least 40 people have been killed and over 200 injured during the campaign.

The prolonged assault on Jenin is part of a broader Israeli policy of repression and displacement across the occupied West Bank, as Palestinian officials and rights groups continue to call for international accountability and urgent humanitarian intervention.
