GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) At least four Palestinian female journalists are still held in Israeli jails, a Palestinian prisoners’ group said on Friday.
“Four female journalists are under arrest (in Israeli jails), including a nursing mother,” the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) said in a statement marking World Press Freedom Day.
The statement identified the female detainees as Ikhlas Sawalha, Rola Hasanein, Bushra Al-Tawil and Asmaa Heresh, noting that three of them – Sawalha, Al-Tawil and Heresh – are held under administrative detention and without a trial or charge.
The Palestinian rights group also said that a fifth journalist, Somaya Jawabreh, is under house arrest after her release from Israeli prison last November.
The PPS also pointed out that four journalists from Gaza are still forcibly disappeared, namely: Nidal Al-Wahidi and Haitham Abdel Wahed, who were arrested in the first days of the Israeli aggression, in addition to the journalists Mahmoud Ziad Aliwa and Muhammad Saber Arab, who were arrested from Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza.
Israeli authorities are still refusing to disclose their fate or detention conditions.
At least 141 journalists and media professionals were killed and more than 70 others were injured during the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
