Occupied Jerusalem – Israeli occupation forces brutally attacked and arrested Palestinian youths at the Bab Al-Amud plaza in occupied Jerusalem on Sunday night.
Yesterday, marking the second day of the holy month of Ramadan, the Palestinians gathered at the Bab al-Amud plaza in the evening.
They were singing, dancing, drinking coffee and chatting.
However, well-armed Israeli occupation forces deployed at the area and started attacking and beating the Palestinian youths to disperse them.
They also directly and intensivly fired rubber-coated metal bullets and sound bombs at the youths.
The Red Crescent confirmed the forces injured at least 19 Palestinians.
The occupation forces also arrested 10 Palestinians after violently attacking and beating them.
On Saturday, the forces also attacked and arrested Palestinians while marking the first day of Ramadan. They arrested five youths and injured nine.
Bab al-Amud- or the Damascus Gate- is one of the main entrances to the Old City.
The Plaza is a popular spot where Palestinians gather and sing national songs as a form of civil protest.
It has also been the site of more formal demonstrations by Palestinians and violent suppression by Israeli police.
Thus, the Bab al-Amud plaza has become the scene of a battle and tensions.
This included large numbers of Israeli police officers and forces, including mounted ones.
Moreover, they wield water cannons to disperse Palestinians gatherings at the site, attack and detain them.
Last May, violent attacks by Israeli police on Palestinian gatherings at the Bab al-Amud plaza provoked tensions across the holy city.
The Israeli forces tried to bar Palestinians from Jerusalem holy sites.
Also, a settler group worked to forcibly displaced Palestinians from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in Jerusalem.
Such tensions led to Israel’s May aggression on the Gaza Strip which killed at least 260 Palestinians, including 66 children.
