OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (The Palestine Information Centre) The Israeli authorities have tightened their restrictions against Jerusalemite activists, subjecting them to arbitrary arrest, house arrest, and heavy fines.
On Wednesday evening, the Israeli forces detained a Palestinian young man in Silwan town, near the Aqsa Mosque.
The Israeli forces also detained the Jerusalemite activist Iyad Abu Sneineh for preventing a settler from destroying pro-Palestine murals in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
Two other youths were rounded up in Sur Baher and Rafat towns in Occupied Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, a military checkpoint was set up at the entrance of Isawiya town.
Along the same line, the Israeli authorities sentenced the Jerusalemite prisoner, Medhat Al-Issawi, to 6 years in prison. He spent a total of 29 years behind Israeli bars.
The Jerusalemite prisoner Majd Ramzi was also sentenced to 20 months imprisonment plus a fine of 4,000 shekels.
The Israeli authorities also released the young man Youssef Hijazi to house arrest for 3 days.
Aqsa Mosque guard Arafat Najib and Endowment employee Hussam Sidr were also released on bail of 500 shekels.
During the first half of the year 2023, the Israeli forces arrested 1,523 Palestinians in Occupied Jerusalem.
