RAMALLAH, ,(The Palestine Information Centre)Five Palestinian prisoners are engaged in an open hunger strike in protest against their administrative detention in Israeli jails.
The striking prisoners are Saif Qassem Hamdan, Osama Maher Khalil, Qusay Jamal Khader, Saleh Raafat Rabia, and Kayed al-Fasfous.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said that the Israeli Prison Service (IPA) transferred Hamdan, Khalil, Khader, and Rabaya to Nafha prison shortly after they declared their hunger strike on July 30.
Hamdan, 29, has been detained since 10/4/2022, while Rabia, 22, has been detained since 2/8/2023.
Khader, 25, was detained on December 14, 2022, and was previously imprisoned in Israeli jails for 14 months before being rearrested soon after his release. Khalil, 23, has been detained since May 17, 2022.
Along the same line, Fasfous, 34, continues his hunger strike for the second day.
Administrative detention is ordered by the Israeli military commander and grounded on a “secret file.” Under administrative detention policy, a prisoner is held without charge or trial for up to 6 months, which can be renewed.
There are currently 4,900 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, including 1,200 administrative detainees.
