GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Hamas has denounced US President Joe Biden’s latest remarks on the captives being held in Gaza during a speech in Seattle, in which he claimed that a ceasefire in Gaza would be possible only if Hamas fighters released Israeli prisoners.
“We condemn this position by the US president, and we consider it a retreat from the results of the last round of talks which culminated with the Movement’s acceptance of the proposal that had been tabled by the Egyptian and Qatari mediators, with the full knowledge of the US mediator,” Hamas said in a statement on Sunday.
Hamas affirmed that it showed the necessary flexibility in all stages of the negotiations that were held to reach a ceasefire agreement, but Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu and his government torpedoed this trajectory by embarking on attacking civilians in Rafah, Jabalia, and Gaza City and escalating its massacres across the coastal enclave.
Hamas added that Israel’s escalation of its aggression against Gaza reflected Netanyahu’s insistence on continuing the genocidal war and his disregard for the lives of the Israeli captives.
It underlined that such a position by Biden vindicated further the US administration’s bias in favor of the “criminal policy” pursued by what it described as the “Zio-Nazi government” and its persistence in providing political cover and military support for the Israeli war of extermination against the Palestinian people and gaining more time for the occupation army to finish its destruction, killing and genocidal operations in Gaza.
