DOHA (Palestine Foundation Information Center)A senior Hamas official expressed his appreciation for the clarification issued by Dr. Mustafa Al-Barghouti regarding his participation in a seminar in Italy, condemning the attempts to target him and incite against him.
Hamas Media Office Director Ezzet Al-Resheq denied in a statement on Saturday that his Movement had issued any statement criticizing Dr. Mustafa al-Barghouti, the Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative movement, stressing that the “suspicious parties targeting Dr. al-Barghouti are the same ones targeting the resistance.”
He said, “The circulated statement is a forged statement that was not issued by the Movement and was not published on any of its official platforms.”
Resheq added, “We appreciate the national positions of Dr. Al-Barghouti and his repudiation of the Zionist narrative, especially during the ongoing Zionist aggression against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”
Earlier, Al-Barghouti pledged to continue confronting normalization in all its forms and all its dangerous projects, explaining the context of the seminar in Italy.
Al-Barghouti said in a press statement, “Our position will not change a bit, no matter how the biased parties incite.”
He explained the details of the event in Italy, saying, “During my short visit to Italy, I was invited to participate in a political seminar that included eight speakers, including the Mayor of Rome, Italian parliamentarians and diplomats, and it was a public open seminar, not a Palestinian-Israeli meeting as some biased parties promoted.”
He added, “Unfortunately, and due to the lack of time, I did not have the opportunity to thoroughly investigate the nature of all the participants in the seminar, which was attended by the Israeli politician and the opponent who works as a lecturer at Spanish universities, Shlomo Ben-Ami.”
Al-Barghouti explained that “this was an unintentional mistake, which should have been avoided and not fallen into, regardless of the positions of the aforementioned person, who described the Israeli government as a fundamentalist fascist.”
