GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Palestinian prisoner Omar Junaid from Gaza has died of severe torture in the Israeli Sde Teiman military detention center, which brings the number of Palestinian prisoners who have died of torture in Israeli jails since the start of the genocidal war on the Strip to 21 martyrs.
Human rights organizations reported that the prisoner Junaid, 26, from Jabalia Governorate, north of the Gaza Strip, died on June 17 as a result of brutal torture in the Sde Teiman detention camp.
The Prisoners and Ex-prisoners Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) said in a joint statement on Monday that the announcement of Junaid’s martyrdom came days after his family was officially informed by the HaMoked Israeli human rights organization.
The statement pointed out that the IOF arrested Junaid on December 23, along with his brother Yasser, who was released after four months of detention.
The statement also quoted the martyr’s family as confirming that he was not suffering from any health problems before his arrest, adding that he was working before the war in the field of agriculture, and was planning for his wedding.
It stressed that the martyr Junaid is one of dozens of prisoners from Gaza who were martyred as a result of brutal torture in Israeli prisons and detention camps, specifically the Sde Teiman.
With the martyrdom of Junaid, the number of Palestinian prisoners who have been martyred in Israeli jails since 1967 rises to 258.
