GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has appreciated the statement by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, in which he reiterated his country’s decision to ban the export of coal to Israel, saying, “With Colombian coal, they manufacture bombs to kill Palestinian children.”
In a press statement on Sunday, the Movement expressed its appreciation for the courageous position of the Republic of Colombia in severing diplomatic relations with Israel and condemning the genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The Movement called on all countries to sever their relations with this “fascist entity, work by all means to boycott it, isolate it, and impose sanctions on it, and prosecute its leaders as war criminals in international courts.”
The American Bloomberg website said that “Colombian President Gustavo Petro signed a decree banning the export of coal to Israel to put pressure on the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war on Gaza.”
Since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza, the Colombian President has repeatedly affirmed that “Israel is committing genocide,” calling on the world to put an end to Netanyahu’s violations.
At the end of last February, Petro announced the suspension of arms purchase deals from Israel, following the Flour Massacre in Gaza, when 118 Palestinians were martyred while waiting for an aid convoy near the Nabelsi roundabout in the north of the Strip.
Petro also announced in May that “his country has severed diplomatic relations with Israel, and the countries of the world must not be passive in the face of what is happening in Gaza.”
Petro said during a massive march in the capital Bogotá on the occasion of Labor Day, “Here before you, the government of change and the government of the President of the Republic declare that tomorrow we will cut diplomatic relations with Israel, because it has a government and a president who are committing genocide.”
The Israeli occupation army has been continuing its aggression on the Gaza Strip since last October 7, 2023, with American and European support, bombarding hospitals, buildings, towers and the homes of Palestinian civilians, destroying them over the heads of their inhabitants, and preventing the entry of water, food, medicine and fuel.
The continuous aggression of the occupation on Gaza has led to the martyrdom of more than 40,000 martyrs, the injury of more than 92,000 others, and the displacement of 90% of the population of the Strip.
