GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, Tlaleng Mofokeng, said “We have witnessed the horror of genocide in Gaza since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on October 7.”
This came in a joint press conference held by Mofokeng with other UN rapporteurs on Monday, on the situation in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, as part of the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
Mofokeng added that Gaza has been witnessing a genocide for 11 months perpetrated by the Israeli occupation army, noting that the attacks on hospitals and health sector workers have reached an unprecedented level, pointing to the complete destruction of the health infrastructure in Gaza.
She reported that only 17 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are partially functioning, noting that Israel continues to violate international law by launching attacks on civilians, children, and health workers.
For his part, the UN Special Rapporteur on International Order, George Katrougalos, said what is happening in the Palestinian territories is “a public catastrophe for everyone.”
He added that this catastrophe and tragedy is not confined to Palestinians alone, but it is directly linked to the future of multilateralism and the UN standards.
Katougalos called for immediate recognition of the State of Palestine, and for all countries to exert pressure to stop the ongoing war in Gaza.
