RAMALLAH (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs Commission said on Thursday that the “Palestinian prisoners held in the Israeli Gilboa prison are living in hell.”
The Commission explained, quoting its lawyer who was able to visit some detainees in Gilboa prison two days ago, that “Israeli jailers at Gilboa prison target the detainees’ psychologically by physical and verbal insults.”
The lawyer explained that beating and cursing have become a daily fixed routine, in addition to forcing detainees to sit in certain positions during the counting procedure.
He further elaborated that the detainees are forced to kneel on the ground with their hands over their heads and their faces towards the wall, adding that they are forced to walk on lines drawn on the ground when going out for a break.
The Commission revealed that the prisoners are completely isolated from the outside world and served food poor in quantity and quality, adding that there is a severe shortage of clothes and blankets in addition to the spread of skin diseases and the lack of cleaning materials and disinfectants.
According to the Commission’s lawyer, the prison sections are severely overcrowded to the extent that prisoners do not have space to sit on or move outside the boundaries of their mattresses.
The Commission said that the number of arrests in the West Bank including Jerusalem has surged to more than 10,800 arrests since the start of the ongoing Israeli war of genocide and the comprehensive aggression against the Palestinian people on October 7, 2023.
