Ministry of Health: 65% of health institutions in Gaza went out of service

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Ministry of Health in Gaza said the Israeli occupation army targeted 65% of health institutions in the Strip, and deliberately deprived thousands of patients from receiving medical care over a full year of the Israeli genocidal war.

This came in a statement issued by the ministry on the occasion of the anniversary of October 7 on which the Israeli annihilation war on the Gaza Strip has started.

The statement said, “Nearly 65% of health institutions (including governmental, private and the UNRWA facilities) were targeted, noting that the rest are partially functioning with a 300% occupancy rate, especially the intensive care and nurseries departments.”

It added that the Israeli occupation army destroyed infrastructure, sewage networks and prevented the introduction of detergents and sterilization materials, which led to the spread of epidemics and diseases, such as hepatitis, polio, and skin diseases.

It pointed out that the systematic and permanent targeting of the health sector has deprived more than two million people in the Gaza Strip from receiving basic health services.

According to the statement, 12,000 cancer patients cannot receive basic treatments or even analgesics, in addition to 50,000 pregnant women deprived of health services and maternity care.

“Hundreds of dialysis patients died as a result of the lack of health care and the lack of dialysis services in many hospitals. Estimates indicate that many martyrs have died as a result of the lack of medical services,” the statement underlined.

It pointed out that the number of martyrs of the health sector in Gaza reached 986, including four martyrs who died inside the Israeli occupation prisons.

It pointed out that more than 60% of the victims of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza are children and women, noting that the number of martyrs reached 41,909 since October 7, 2023.

The statement called for the cessation of the Israeli aggression and the killing machine and for allowing thousands of wounded to leave the Gaza Strip to receive treatment in specialized hospitals.

The Health Ministry also called on all relevant authorities to facilitate the arrival of medical supplies to all hospitals without restrictions, and to allow the entry of medical delegations.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), only 17 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are currently operating partially, while primary health care services are suspended or impossible to be accessed in many cases due to insecurity, attacks, and repeated evacuation orders that Israeli occupation army directs to the population.

In December, the only center dedicated to limb and rehabilitation, located in the Nasser Medical Complex, which is supported by WHO, went out of the service due to the lack of supplies and specialized health workers.
