LONDON (Palestine Foundation Information Center) A delegation of representatives from Arab and Palestinian communities in the kingdom visited on Monday, 7th October 2024, the Lebanese embassy to express solidarity with the Arab country, which has been under relentless Israeli attacks for months.
The visiting delegation included representatives from several organizations, including the Al Arab in UK platform, the Palestinian Forum in Britain, the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad, the Muslim Association of Britain, Health Workers for Palestine, as well as several media professionals and independent figures.
During its visit to the embassy, the delegation presented an honorary plaque to Lebanese ambassador Rami Mortada in recognition of his efforts to amplify Lebanon’s voice within the British political and diplomatic spheres.
For his part, ambassador Mortada welcomed the delegation and applauded the ongoing support the Arab communities in the UK provide for both the Palestinian and Lebanese causes.
“We remain steadfast in our position, guided by both our moral conviction and the justice of our cause. While some assert Israel’s right to self-defense, this claim rings hollow when measured against the clear provisions of international law. How can an occupying force lay claim to the right of self-defense?” the ambassador said during his meeting with the delegation.
“The right to self-defense is governed by strict rules, primarily aimed at protecting civilians by targeting only military objectives. The atrocities committed by Israel, whether in Gaza, Palestine, or now Lebanon, are well-documented and undeniable,” the ambassador added.
“Despite the ongoing tragedies and severe humanitarian challenges, the spirit of the Lebanese people remains resilient. We understand that this is not a temporary crisis, but a deeply rooted issue of public consciousness that may resonate for generations to come,” he said.
