Gaza: Displaced families facing tragic conditions due to heavy rain

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Makeshift tents and homes housing thousands of displaced people in several areas of the Gaza Strip sustained severe damage after rainwater flooded them on Sunday.

As a result, tens of thousands of displaced Gazans are now facing harsher living conditions after heavy rainfall has ruined their bedding and belongings.

Citizens and activists have documented with their cellphones the suffering of the displaced families after rainwater flooded and damaged their tents and left them with no options to overcome the tragic humanitarian situation they have been living in for more than a year.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s civil defense service warned today that the displaced families would be facing great risks if the low-lying areas were flooded with rainwater in the midst of waste pile-up and sewage overflow that already resulted from the Israel occupation army’s widespread destruction of infrastructure across the Gaza Strip.

Rescue teams reported today significant damage to tents in several areas across the Gaza Strip, particularly in the Yarmouk displacement camp, Gaza City’s municipal park, and ash-Shati refugee camp and some schools used as shelter centers.

Damage also occurred in areas in southern and central Gaza such as Wadi al-Dumaitha in Khan Yunis, Wadi al-Salqa, the vicinity of al-Amal neighborhood, the grounds of al-Aqsa University, the Shakoush area in Rafah, and the coastline of Deir al-Balah.
