GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The UN World Food Program (WFP) on Friday said all the bakeries in central Gaza were forced to shut down due to severe supply shortages amid Israel’s ongoing genocidal war on Gaza.
“All bakeries in central Gaza have shut down due to severe supply shortages,” the WFP said on X.
The WFP said bread, a lifeline for many families and the only food they can access, “is now slipping out of reach” for residents.
The UN organization warned that “famine remains a serious risk” for people in Gaza, urging the “safe and secure access of vital humanitarian aid into Gaza.”
For its part, the representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territory, Ajith Sungai, said that the United Nations cannot deliver any humanitarian aid to northern Gaza due to the Israeli tight siege on the area.
Hundreds of Palestinians continue to flee from northern Gaza, where the Israeli military launched a new offensive two months ago, imposing a complete siege on the territory. The United Nations estimated that up to 131,000 people fled the area, with up to 75,000 remaining.
The siege has isolated Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun and the Jabaliya refugee camp, allowing almost no humanitarian aid to reach the area.
Food security experts previously warned that famine is imminent. Earlier this month, the Famine Review Committee said that “famine thresholds may have already been crossed or else will be in the near future.”
