DOHA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said on Saturday that the genocide occurring in the Gaza Strip will impact the region, with its repercussions extending to Lebanon and Syria. He called for innovative solutions to end the current violence in the region and the world.
During the opening of the Doha Forum, attended by Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of putting an end to the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza, which is experiencing violent turmoil and an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, with its effects spreading to Lebanon and Syria.
He warned that “the continuation of the situation in Gaza will have serious repercussions threatening the security of the region, as we have seen in Lebanon.” He added that “adhering to traditional approaches in dealing with intractable crises leads to their exacerbation,” pointing to the “need to innovate new methods to end the violence and establish sustainable peace.”
He noted that “the experience of the achieved truce has proven the possibility of successful diplomatic efforts,” questioning: “How can an international community that speaks of technological solutions fail to protect civilians in conflict areas?”
During the opening session of the Doha Forum, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani honored journalists from Arab and foreign media outlets who covered the war in Gaza and Lebanon, including Al Jazeera correspondent in Gaza Wael Al Dahdouh and photojournalist Moataz Azayza.
The 22nd edition of the Doha Forum commenced on Saturday under the theme “The Imperative of Innovation,” aiming to explore how innovative thinking can reshape the future and lead to a safer, more sustainable, and prosperous reality in a rapidly changing world with the accelerating development of artificial intelligence systems and the digital economy.
In a related context, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said that the disaster in the Gaza Strip represents a “total collapse of our shared humanity,” amid the ongoing Israeli genocide against the region for more than 14 months.
Guterres wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday evening, “The disaster in Gaza is nothing but a total collapse of our shared humanity,” adding that this “nightmare in Gaza must stop.” He emphasized that “we cannot continue to ignore what is happening” in the region.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with U.S. support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in over 150,000 Palestinian martyrs and injured, most of whom are children and women, as well as more than 11,000 missing persons, amidst massive destruction and famine that has killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
Israel continues its massacres, ignoring the United Nations Security Council’s decision to end them immediately, and the International Court of Justice’s orders to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
