Hamas: Paraguay’s embassy move to Jerusalem violates international law

GAZA   (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Hamas Movement said that the decision by the President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, to relocate his country’s embassy to occupied Jerusalem represents a blatant violation of the rights of the Palestinian people to their land and eternal capital.

Hamas emphasized in a statement on Friday that this step violates international law and United Nations resolutions, which consider Jerusalem as occupied Palestinian territory.

The Movement called on the Paraguayan government to reverse this decision, align itself with the values of justice and humanity, and support the rights of the Palestinian people who face acts of extermination and the Judaization of their land and holy sites, particularly Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Paraguay opened its embassy in Jerusalem for the first time in May 2017 but later closed it and reopened it in Tel Aviv based on a decision by its former Foreign Minister Luis Alberto Castiglioni in September 2018, who justified the move as aimed at supporting efforts to achieve a just and sustainable peace in the Middle East.

In 2018, the United States was the first country to move its embassy to Jerusalem, followed by other countries such as Guatemala, Kosovo, and Honduras.
