GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Palestinian ministry of education has said that the ongoing Israeli aggression, which started on October 7, 2023, has claimed the lives of 12,799 Palestinian students and injured 20,942 others in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, describing the death toll among both students and teachers as “horrifying.”
In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry added that 598 teachers and school administrators were killed and 3,801 others were injured during 14 months of Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank.
The largest number of those casualties was in Gaza, where 12,681 students were killed and 20,311 others were injured, according to the ministry.
The ministry also pointed out that 425 government schools, universities and facilities belonging to it in Gaza had been bombed and destroyed during the same period, including 171 buildings that sustained considerable damage and 77 others that were completely destroyed and reduced to rubble.
65 UNRWA schools are among those that were bombed and destroyed by the Israeli occupation army in Gaza, while 109 other schools and seven universities were reportedly raided and ransacked by Israeli forces in the West Bank.
The ministry affirmed that 788,000 students in the Gaza Strip are still deprived of education, while most students suffer from psychological traumas and face difficult health conditions.
