Details revealed about a failed attempt to recover an Israeli captive in Gaza

NAZARETH  (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Israeli Channel 12 revealed that the Israeli army attempted, a year ago, to recover an Israeli prisoner from the Gaza Strip after obtaining intelligence information. However, the operation ended with the death of prisoner Saher Barukh.

The channel explained on Sunday evening that soldiers from the army’s special unit believed they were embarking on a mission to free the abducted Noa Argamani, but it turned out that the intelligence was incorrect.

It was noted that the forces stormed a building in Gaza and were met with heavy gunfire during their attempt to enter, turning the supposed rescue operation into a casualty evacuation, during which two soldiers were seriously injured.

The Israeli channel confirmed that, as of now, it is unknown whether the captive was killed by army fire or by the resistance’s fire.

In recent months, dozens of Israeli captives have been killed in Gaza due to bombardments or during Israeli operations within the Strip, with some dying during failed attempts to release them.

At the beginning of September, there was widespread anger in Israel towards premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s government following the announcement by the occupation army that it had retrieved the bodies of six captives found inside a tunnel in the Gaza Strip.

The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, said that the captives were killed in the ongoing Israeli bombardment of Gaza, holding Netanyahu’s government and the U.S. administration responsible for their deaths and those of previous captives.

Hamas, in previous statements, indicated that dozens of captives were killed due to Israeli shelling across the Strip during the war that has been ongoing for 11 months.

With each announcement of the Israeli army retrieving the bodies of captives from Gaza, protests in Israel escalate, along with accusations directed at Netanyahu of obstructing prisoner exchange negotiations and ceasefire efforts.
