Five Syrians injured by IOF in Quneitra countryside

DAMASCUS  (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Israeli occupation forces (IOF) injured five Syrians while suppressing protest demonstrations in the towns of Suwaisa and Al-Dawaya Al-Kabira in the Quneitra countryside, southwestern Syria, on Wednesday.

The “Daraa 24” network reported that the IOF stormed the town of Suwaisa in Quneitra province and conducted widespread destruction of abandoned military barracks in the center of the town and its surroundings, in addition to cutting down trees.

The network confirmed that the occupation soldiers did not approach the residents’ homes; however, the acts of vandalism prompted locals to gather and protest against the incursion, raising revolutionary flags and condemning the Israeli assaults.

The newspaper “Al-Arabi Al-Jadid” quoted unnamed sources as saying that the IOF soldiers fired shots in the air and towards the demonstrators to prevent them from approaching their positions, resulting in the injury of three protesters. Nevertheless, the locals did not back down and succeeded, in cooperation with some residents of nearby villages, in repelling the forces and driving them out of the area after their incursion into the town this morning and their attempts to impose a curfew using loudspeakers. Two civilians were also injured when occupation soldiers opened fire on residents in the town of Al-Dawaya Al-Kabira in central Quneitra.

The sources indicated that Israeli forces moved their equipment, including bulldozers, to the “Talain Al-Hamr” site where they have been stationed for some time. They later proceeded to the abandoned Al-Dawaya barracks in the area to continue their destructive operations.

Additionally, the “Daraa 24” site reported that an Israeli force arrested a young man named Khalil Al-Aref, in his twenties, early Wednesday morning after storming his home in the town of Abedin in the Yarmouk Basin area of western Daraa.

The IOF exploited the Syrians’ preoccupation with the overthrow of Bashar Al-Assad’s regime, infiltrating vast areas in southern Syria under the chaos of the first day following the revolution’s victory and began establishing points to solidify their occupation, especially in Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights.
