OCHA: Access to healthcare deteriorating in the West Bank due to Israeli restrictions

WEST BANK  (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that access to healthcare in the West Bank is deteriorating due to the restrictions imposed by the Israeli occupation on freedom of movement.

In a statement on Friday, the UN office noted that 68% of health service points in the West Bank can no longer operate for more than two or three days a week, while hospitals are functioning at only 70% of their capacity.

It explained that the severe restrictions imposed by occupation forces on movement throughout the West Bank, characterized by road closures, long delays at checkpoints, and the establishment of new gates at village entrances, hinder Palestinians’ access to basic services and work places.

The UN office indicated that 34 citizens have been martyred, including 6 children, in the West Bank since the beginning of January, which includes the martyrdom of 12 citizens since the onset of the aggression against the city of Jenin and its refugee camps.

The statement also reported an increase in settler assaults against citizens and their properties in the West Bank, resulting in at least 17 citizens being injured and damage to numerous buildings, including homes and vehicles, over the past week.
