Egypt to host Arab meeting to explore ways to support UNRWA and Gaza

CAIRO (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Egypt’s ministry of foreign affairs said it would host on Saturday a meeting in Cairo attended by some Arab countries to discuss the situation in the region and explore ways to protect the ceasefire agreement over Gaza and support UNRWA.

According to Egyptian and Jordanian media outlets, the meeting will be attended by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The secretary of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, and the Arab League secretary-general, Ahmad Abul-Gheit, will also attend the meeting.

The participants in the meeting will discuss regional developments and the efforts to stabilize the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

They will also discuss ways to ensure the sufficient and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid across the entire Gaza Strip, as well as how to support UNRWA and enable it to fulfill its UN mandate in light of the Israeli ban on its activities.

An Israeli ban on UNRWA in the occupied Palestinian territories came into effect on Thursday — a step that could impact the organization’s life-saving work in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli ban also prevents any Israeli authority from dealing with UNRWA.

Israel has repeatedly accused UNRWA employees of involvement in the October 7th cross-border operation without providing proof.
