Hamas discusses ceasefire agreement with Turkish foreign minister

DOHA  (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Senior Hamas Movement leaders met in Doha with visiting Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday evening for an expanded discussion on the Gaza ceasefire agreement’s second stage.

Hamas said in a statement that the Movement’s delegation led by its Shura Council chairman and head of its leadership council Mohammed Darwish discussed with Fidan the articles of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, the exchange of prisoners, and preparations for the second stage of negotiations in the agreement.

The Hamas delegates pointed to the Israeli delay in allowing entry of badly needed tents, caravans, fuel, reconstruction material, and heavy machinery.

They affirmed the Palestinian people’s right to dignified life and all necessary needs to immediately start with the reconstruction process, providing shelter, rebuilding roads, fixing water wells, and supplying food.

Hamas hailed the Turkish position and support for the Palestinian people and their just cause, calling for more support on the part of the Arab and Islamic countries for the Palestinian people especially in the Gaza Strip, which is suffering immensely as a result of the Israeli war of genocide.

For his part, Fidan affirmed Türkiye’s stable stance in support of the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom and independence and its insistence on bringing war criminals to justice.

He underlined his country’s support for the ceasefire agreement, stressing the importance of supplying Gaza inhabitants with all their humanitarian needs as soon as possible while refusing any plan to displace them from their land.

Fidan had reiterated these same positions during his press conference earlier Sunday with the Qatari premier and foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani.

Al Thani, for his part, called for initiating the second stage of the ceasefire negotiations without delay. He told the press conference that the ceasefire should be stabilized and the exchange of prisoners should proceed in its second phase and that aid to Gaza should be unhindered.
