RAMALLAH (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has reported that 13 Palestinian female prisoners held at Damon prison are facing increasingly harsh incarceration conditions at the hands of Israeli jailers.
According to the Commission on Sunday, the detained women are forced to stay in cold cells, with windows left open and scarce supplies of clothing and blankets amid chilly temperatures.
According to the statement, the women are suffering from different forms of maltreatment at the hands of prison guards. They are reportedly shackled, blindfolded and dragged when they are escorted to the infirmary or to see lawyers.
The women are also frequently and unexpectedly transferred between cells — a measure that is intended to deprive them of any sense of stability inside the prison, the Commission said.
Some of the women told a visiting lawyer that prison guards enter their cells during the night while they are asleep. These break-ins force them to sleep with headscarves.
