Homes raided, set on fire during 33-day Israeli aggression in Tulkarem

WEST BANK (Palestine Foundation Information Center) As part of their ongoing aggression in the northern West Bank, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have been attacking, raiding, and burning homes in Tulkarem and its camp for 33 days, as well as in the Nur Shams camp for 20 days.

The IOF sent additional military reinforcements to the city and the Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps last night. They patrolled the streets and alleys and were positioned along the Nablus Street that connects the two camps. They also occupied residential buildings on the aforementioned street, converting them into military barracks.

The Israeli occupation still maintains a tight siege on the camps of Tulkarem and Nur Shams, preventing people from entering or leaving them.

In the Nur Shams camp, Israeli snipers fired live bullets in the Jabal al-Nasr and al-Salihin areas, severely damaging the home of Ahmed al-Abd al-Bata in Jabal al-Salihin.

The Israeli forces’ continuous assault on the city and its two camps caused extensive damage to the communications, water, sewage, and electricity infrastructure. This resulted in the disruption of essential services for the entire Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps, further aggravating the plight of the remaining residents.

Along with the total and partial destruction of properties, including homes and stores, military bulldozers also left behind previously unheard-of damage to residential neighborhoods and roads. Most recently, 26 buildings in Tulkarem camp were completely demolished, severely damaging nearby structures and facilities. The occupation also informed the camp residents that it planned to demolish 11 houses in Nur Shams camp in the next few days, citing the need to pave roads that passed through multiple neighborhoods.

In the course of the ongoing aggression, the IOF has forced about 12,000 residents of Tulkarem camp and over 5,000 residents of Nur Shams camp to flee their homes due to armed conflict. Additionally, 13 citizens, including a child and two pregnant women, have been martyred.

Tulkarem has been cut off from the villages, towns, and other West Bank governorates due to the Israeli 21-day closure of the gate of the Jabara checkpoint at the city’s southern entrance.
