IOA releases Ahmad Manasra after over nine years in prison

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM Ahmed Manasra, a Jerusalemite prisoner who was jailed at the age of 13, was released by the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) on Thursday after he finished serving his prison term.

Manasra was expected to be released outside the Nafha prison, where his family was waiting for him, but he was released in Beersheba City, which is far from the prison.

One of the Bedouin citizens from the Beersheba area met him before calling his family and informing them of his release, according to Palestinian media sources.

Journalists said that although Manasra was freed from prison, he and his family would still face many Israeli restrictions, including talking to media outlets.

According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society, Manasra had endured physical and psychological torture at the hands of Israeli interrogators and jailers since his arrest at the age of 13. He also spent prolonged periods in solitary confinement.

Manasra was arrested at the age of 13, for being with his 15-year-old cousin Hasan Manasra, who allegedly stabbed two Jewish settlers near the illegal settlement of Pisgat Ze’ev in Occupied Jerusalem in 2015.

Hassan was shot dead by a Jewish settler while Ahmad was run over by a car, and beaten and taunted by other passing settlers.

He was later convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to nine and a half years in prison.
