GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that Gaza Strip is approaching “extreme hunger”, as essential supplies in the Strip are about to run out due to the ongoing Israeli blockade and the closure of crossings since March 2.
Juliette Touma, UNRWA’s Director of Information and Communication, said in a press release, “With the Israeli authorities’ blockade of Gaza ongoing for more than six weeks, all essential supplies are on the verge of running out.”
Touma explained that the depletion of basic supplies is accompanied by a “significant increase in the prices” of goods in Gaza over the past month, which led to infants and children sleeping hungry.
She emphasized that without “ essential supplies, the Gaza Strip is nearing a state of extreme hunger every day,” calling for the immediate resumption of the ceasefire in Gaza, lifting the siege and allowing unimpeded entry of humanitarian and commercial supplies.
Since March 2, Israeli occupation forces have been closing Gaza Strip crossings to the entry of humanitarian, relief and medical aid into the enclave, causing an unprecedented deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
