OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (Palestine Foundation Information Center) A recent opinion poll published on Friday revealed that a majority of Israelis favor a comprehensive deal to secure the release of Israeli captives held by Palestinian resistance in exchange for ending the war on Gaza and a full Israeli withdrawal from the territory.
The poll was conducted by the Israeli Lazar Institute and surveyed a random sample of 508 participants, with a margin of error of 4.4%.
According to the Israeli newspaper Maariv, 62% of respondents expressed support for a deal that would see all Israeli captives released in one exchange in return for halting the fighting and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.
Conversely, 21% opposed such a deal, while 17% said they had no opinion on the matter.
Israel estimates that 59 of its captives are being held in Gaza, with only 24 believed to be still alive.
Meanwhile, Israel is currently detaining more than 9,500 Palestinians in its prisons — including women and children — amid consistent reports from both Palestinian and Israeli human rights groups of systematic violations, including torture, medical neglect, and starvation.
On Thursday, the Hamas Movement announced its readiness to immediately enter comprehensive negotiations with Israel aimed at securing the release of all Israeli captives in exchange for a complete cessation of hostilities and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
