Hamas urges Jordan to handle case of 16 detainees with national responsibility

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Hamas Movement reaffirmed its full commitment to the security and stability of Jordan and all Arab and Islamic countries, calling on the Jordanian government to immediately release the 16 detainees accused of attempting to manufacture rockets and drones.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Hamas expressed confidence that the actions of the detained Jordanian youths—charged with manufacturing rockets and drones—were motivated solely by solidarity with Palestine, rejection of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and defense of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and were in no way intended to threaten Jordan’s security or stability.

Hamas urged the Jordanian authorities to appreciate the “honorable national motives” behind the actions of the detainees and to address the matter with wisdom and a sense of pan-Arab responsibility, in a manner that strengthens the deep-rooted historical relationship between the Jordanian and Palestinian peoples in their joint struggle against the Israeli occupation and its plans.

The Movement emphasized that the acts of the Jordanian youths came in the context of “the horrific crimes of the Zionist regime and the ongoing genocide in Gaza.”

Hamas also praised the initiatives arising from “the conscience of the nation and its Arab and Islamic identity,” which reflect the profound historical solidarity between the Jordanian and Palestinian peoples, who have together made shared sacrifices in the fields of resistance and the defense of Palestine and its holy sites.

It reaffirmed that support for the Palestinian resistance is “a national and moral duty and a right guaranteed by all international laws and conventions,” stressing that such support should not be criminalized, but rather honored and appreciated for its central role in confronting the occupation and its crimes.

Hamas also saluted every free voice and sincere initiative from beloved Jordan and across the Arab world that contributes to supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and condemning the aggression and genocide taking place in Gaza.

The statement further read: “We value Jordan’s stance in rejecting the displacement plans targeting our people in Gaza, and consider it a position that reflects genuine Arab conscience and strengthens our people’s resilience against the occupation’s dangerous schemes.”

On 15 April, Jordanian Minister of Communications and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani announced the arrest of 16 individuals accused of involvement in the manufacture of rockets and drones, possession of explosives and automatic weapons, concealment of a ready-to-use missile, and development of a drone production project. The charges also reportedly include the production of short-range rockets with an estimated range of 3 to 5 kilometers.
