DOHA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Hamas Movement on Monday welcomed the joint statement issued by the leaders of Britain, France, and Canada, calling it “a significant step in the right direction.”
In an official statement, Hamas said the declaration reflects a principled stance against the Israeli occupation’s policy of siege and starvation targeting Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as well as Zionist plans of genocide and forced displacement.
The Movement described the position as “an important step towards restoring the principles of international law”, which, it said, have been systematically undermined by the “terrorist government of Netanyahu.”
Hamas called for the statement to be urgently translated into effective, practical steps that would deter the occupation and end the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza caused by Israel’s ongoing military campaign.
The Movement also urged Arab and Islamic countries, the European Union, and the international community to take decisive and concrete action to halt the “savage Zionist aggression,” curb the Israeli military’s ongoing crimes, and ensure accountability for what it called a “rogue state” and its leaders, whom it described as war criminals.
Such steps, Hamas stated, are essential to protecting civilians and putting an end to the occupation’s fascism, genocide, and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Background: UK, France, and Canada condemn Israel’s actions in Gaza
Earlier on Monday, Britain, France, and Canada jointly demanded that Israel immediately halt its military operations in Gaza and allow full humanitarian aid access.
In a joint statement, the three countries criticized Israel’s recent move to permit only minimal amounts of food into Gaza, saying it was “completely inadequate.”
They further stated: “Israel’s refusal to provide essential aid to civilians in Gaza is unacceptable.”
“We will not stand by as Netanyahu’s government continues its outrageous actions.”
The statement also condemned the inflammatory rhetoric of some Israeli officials and threats of forced deportation, emphasizing that: “Forced displacement is a violation of international humanitarian law.”
Israel resumed its military assault on Gaza at dawn on 18 March 2025, launching airstrikes across the territory. More than 12,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured since then.
The renewed offensive came in violation of a ceasefire agreement with Palestinian resistance factions, which had lasted nearly two months and was brokered by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar.
Since 7 October 2023, the Israeli military—with full American support—has been carrying out what human rights groups describe as a campaign of genocide in Gaza, resulting in more than 174,500 Palestinians killed or injured, the majority of them women and children, along with over 14,000 missing, many believed to be buried under rubble.
