BEIRUT (Palestine Foundation Information Center)Two people were killed Wednesday in separate Israeli drone strikes on southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.
In the first strike, a drone targeted a vehicle in the town of Ain Baal in the Tyre district, killing one person. The health ministry confirmed the fatality in an official statement but did not provide further details on the identity of the victim.
The Israeli occupation army later claimed responsibility for the Ain Baal strike, claiming it had killed Hussein Nazih Barji, a senior Hezbollah figure.
Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that the target was operating a bulldozer to clear rubble from his home, which had been damaged in previous attacks.
A second Israeli airstrike targeted the town of Yater, also in southern Lebanon, killing one person and injuring another, according to the health ministry.
A fragile ceasefire has been in place in Lebanon since November 2024, ending months of attacks and skirmishes between Israel and Hezbollah — which started immediately after the genocidal war on Gaza started in October 2023.
However, the Israeli occupation army still carries out regular strikes in Lebanon, claiming it targets Hezbollah operatives and infrastructure.
The ceasefire deal is based on UN Security Council Resolution 1701 that says Lebanese troops and UN peacekeepers should be the only forces in south Lebanon.
Under the deal, Israel was supposed to pull all its forces from south Lebanon, but it has retained military presence in five areas it deems “strategic.”
