SANA’A (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Israeli warplanes bombed three Yemeni ports and a power plant last night, the Israeli occupation army said early on Monday, marking the first Israeli attack on Yemen in almost a month.
The strikes on Hodeida, Ras Isa and Salif ports, and Ras Qantib power plant in Hodeida City were due to repeated Yemeni attacks on Israel, the Israeli army claimed.
Hours after the strikes, the Israeli army said two missiles were launched from Yemen and attempts were made to intercept them, but the results of interception were still under review.
Earlier on Sunday, a missile fired by Yemen’s armed forces triggered air raid sirens in southern Israel and was reportedly intercepted with no one being hurt, according to the Hebrew media. The spokesman for the armed forces claimed it was a hypersonic missile targeting Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv.
Yemen’s military spokesperson said following the Israeli attacks that the country’s air defenses confronted the Israeli attack “by using a large number of domestically produced surface-to-air missiles.”
Local residents in Hodeida told journalists that the Israeli strikes on the Red Sea port city of Hodeida put the main power station out of service, leaving the city in darkness. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Yemen’s Al-Masirah satellite channel reported that Israel launched a series of strikes on Hodeida, shortly after the Israeli army threatened to strike three of its ports.
Yemen’s armed forces in Sana’a have been targeting Israel with long-range drones and ballistic missiles since November 2023 to pressure for an end to the US-backed Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.
