GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The municipalities of Gaza’s central governorate have announced that their essential services have stopped entirely due to the total cutoff of fuel supplies needed to operate water wells, sewage treatment plants, waste collection vehicles, and heavy machinery used for debris removal and road clearing.
In a statement on Sunday, the municipalities accused the Israeli occupation of ignoring local and international appeals urging it to allow in fuel needs for municipal activities in Gaza.
The municipalities also pointed out that the water crisis in the central governorate had been getting worse since Israel’s Mekorot water company cut off water supply on January 23, 2025, calling for urgent action to restore the company’s water deliveries.
The municipalities warned that the water crisis heightened health and environmental risks, particularly during the summer when demand for water increases.
The power line supplying electricity to the central seawater desalination plant in the south of Deir al-Balah has also come to a halt since March 9, 2025, according to the municipalities.
The municipalities appealed to UN and international organizations to take urgent action to provide Gaza with its fuel needs to operate water wells, sewage pumps, and municipal vehicles.
