DOHA,(Palestine Foundation Information Center) Egypt and Qatar have reaffirmed their ongoing and intensive efforts to mediate in the Gaza conflict, aiming to reach an agreement that would end the war, alleviate the humanitarian suffering in the Strip, ensure the protection of civilians, and facilitate a prisoner exchange.
In a joint statement issued Friday evening, both countries noted some progress made during the latest round of intensive negotiations, which lasted three weeks. They emphasized that suspending the talks for consultations before resuming dialogue is a natural part of such complex negotiations.
The two nations urged against being misled by leaks circulated by some media outlets attempting to downplay the mediation efforts and disrupt the negotiation process. They stressed that these leaks do not reflect reality and come from parties uninformed about the details of the talks.
The statement also called on international media to act responsibly and uphold journalistic ethics, focusing on the unprecedented suffering in Gaza rather than playing a role in undermining efforts to end the war.
Additionally, the statement reaffirmed the commitment of Egypt and Qatar, in partnership with the United States, to continue working toward a comprehensive ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Earlier today, US President Donald Trump announced that his administration had withdrawn from the Gaza negotiations, calling it unfortunate. He claimed that Hamas “does not want an agreement because they know what will happen after all the captives are recovered.”
