GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) announced the martyrdom of 60-year-old detainee Sayel Rajab Abu Nasr from Gaza inside Israeli prisons.
Abu Nasr was arrested in November 2023 and died on January 21, 2025, under conditions described as inhumane and abusive.
The two institutions said that Abu Nasr’s martyrdom adds to a growing list of systematic crimes against detainees from Gaza, including torture, starvation, medical neglect, and sexual violence.
His case brings the number of prisoners and detainees martyred in Israel’s custody since the start of the genocide to at least 75, including 46 from Gaza.
They warned that conditions in Israeli prisons have reached their most brutal phase in history, with over 10,800 Palestinians currently held, including women, children, and more than 3,600 administrative detainees. At least 2,454 of them from Gaza are classified by the occupation as “illegal fighters.”
The Commission and the PPS held the occupation fully responsible for Abu Nasr’s death and called for an independent international investigation into prisoner deaths, as well as sanctions against the occupation to end its culture of impunity.
