GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, confirming that deaths caused by hunger and malnutrition are increasing at an alarming rate amid the ongoing Israeli blockade and the difficulty in delivering humanitarian aid.
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO, said in a press conference: “Malnutrition is widespread in Gaza, and hunger-related deaths are rising; this is deeply concerning for the international community.”
The organization revealed that in July alone, around 12,000 children under the age of five were diagnosed with acute malnutrition, placing them at high risk of death or long-term health damage.
The WHO added that restrictions on the entry of food and medical aid have worsened the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system, which now suffers from severe shortages of medicines and essential medical supplies.
The organization called for the immediate reopening of border crossings and unhindered access for humanitarian aid, stressing that saving civilian lives in Gaza requires urgent international action.
The United Nations confirmed that hundreds of aid trucks per day are needed to end the famine caused by the blockade and the ongoing campaign of genocide waged by Israel over the past 22 months.
Although Israel allowed limited humanitarian aid to enter Gaza in recent weeks, following sharp international criticism after it completely blocked aid since March 2, it has also facilitated the looting of aid trucks and protected those thefts.
