OCCUPIED Jerusalem, (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Two Jewish settlers held their wedding ceremony on Tuesday, inside the courtyards of the Aqsa Mosque, under heavy Israeli police protection, an act that sparked tension and outrage among worshipers present at the site.
According to eyewitnesses, the ceremony took place in one of the Mosque’s courtyards amid a heavy security presence. Palestinian worshipers expressed their anger at what they described as “a provocation to the feelings of Muslims and a blatant violation of the sanctity of the Mosque,” viewing it as part of ongoing attempts to impose a new reality within the Al-Haram Al-Sharif.
This incident comes amid a rise in daily incursions carried out by settlers under Israeli forces’ protection, during which Jewish religious rituals are performed in the Mosque’s courtyards, in violation of the historical and legal status quo of the Aqsa Mosque, which is designated exclusively for Muslim worship.
Religious bodies and Jerusalem-based institutions have warned of the dangers posed by these repeated violations, stressing that they represent an escalation in the targeting of the Aqsa Mosque and form part of broader efforts to Judaize the site and alter its Islamic and historical identity.
