BEIRUT(Palestine Foundation Information Center) Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes late Thursday on the districts of Hasbaya and Jezzine in southern Lebanon, in what Lebanese officials described as fresh violations of the ceasefire in place since late 2024.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that the strikes targeted Wadi Barghz in Hasbaya district, Nabatieh province, and the Joura Khadr al-Qatrani area in Jezzine district, South Lebanon province. No casualties were reported.
Earlier Thursday, the agency said an Israeli drone strike hit a motorcycle in the town of Aitaroun in Bint Jbeil district, Nabatieh province, firing two missiles and wounding a municipal police officer.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health later confirmed that two people were injured in the Aitaroun attack, noting that Israeli drones continued to fly at low altitude in circular patterns over the towns of Ainata and Aitaroun throughout the evening.
The escalation came a day after Israeli former chief of staff Herzi Halevi toured southern Lebanon, coinciding with a visit to Beirut by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary Ali Larijani.
On Wednesday, Halevi acknowledged that Israel had conducted 600 airstrikes on Lebanon since the ceasefire took effect on November 27, 2024, in violation of the agreement. He vowed that Israel “will not turn back.”
Israel launched its assault on Lebanon on October 8, 2023, which escalated into a full-scale war on September 23, 2024. The conflict killed more than 4,000 people and wounded around 17,000.
The November 2024 ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has been violated more than 3,000 times by Israel, resulting in 281 deaths and 593 injuries, according to official data. Despite a partial withdrawal from southern Lebanon, the Israeli occupation forces continue to hold five hilltops seized during the war.
