The Office confirmed that 46 detainees from Gaza, out of a total of 76 reported deaths since the start of the war, have been identified as victims of these abuses.

Since the beginning of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza on 7 October 2023, Israeli forces have conducted widespread arrests across the Strip. Hundreds of civilians, doctors, paramedics, journalists, and government employees have been detained.
Prisoners’ institutions reported that Gaza detainees are subjected to harsh physical and psychological torture in interrogation centers and prisons and are deliberately deprived of food, medical care, and clothing. Many have suffered long periods of enforced disappearance.
Rights organizations estimate that thousands of Palestinians have been detained since the start of the war. Families face immense difficulty in locating their loved ones or learning their fate. International rights groups have also documented cases of prisoner deaths due to torture and medical neglect, raising grave concerns over widespread violations.
