GAZA,(Palestine Foundation Information Center) The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Ramiz Alakbarov, stated that the confirmed reports of famine in Gaza Governorate are not just another wake-up call; they are a blaring alarm following months of persistent warnings and a clear sign of what may soon engulf other areas of the Strip.
In a statement released Friday, Alakbarov stressed, “This catastrophe is entirely man-made. Despite repeated warnings and relentless efforts to prevent it, the political will to allow the UN and NGOs to conduct humanitarian operations without obstacles has tragically failed.”
He warned that further escalation in the war would only lead to more forced displacement, violence, and widespread destruction.
Alakbarov added that any increase in hostilities will further dismantle the remaining systems of healthcare, water, sanitation, and hygiene, accelerating the spread of disease and worsening the malnutrition crisis.
He called for the immediate and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, essential services, and commercial supplies throughout the Gaza Strip via all crossings and land routes, including direct access to northern Gaza and Gaza City.
“Famine must be stopped at all costs. Ending famine is a race against time,” Alakbarov concluded.
