GAZA, (The Palestinian Information Center)The Hamas Movement has welcomed Spain’s decision to close its ports to weapon shipments destined for Israel, calling it a significant political and moral step toward halting the Israeli genocide, starvation, and forced displacement in the Gaza Strip.
In an official statement, Hamas praised the Spanish government’s move to ban arms exports to Israel and block Spanish ports to ships carrying weapons and military systems to the Israeli army. The Movement called the decision a “notable contribution to international efforts” aimed at ending the ongoing war against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Hamas also urged other arms-exporting countries to follow Spain’s lead and to escalate political, economic, and legal pressure on Israel in order to force a halt to the ongoing Israeli “horrific massacres” against civilians.
Earlier today, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that Spain would prohibit Israeli ships carrying weapons or defense systems from docking in its ports and would close its airspace to planes transporting military supplies to Israel. The restrictions also include fuel tankers supplying the Israeli military, which will no longer be allowed entry into Spanish ports.
The announcement comes amid growing international criticism of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and increased calls for accountability and the protection of civilians.
