GAZA, (The Palestinian Information Center) Bassem Naim, a member of the political bureau of the Hamas Movement, said on Tuesday evening that the primary objective of the recent US proposal is to provoke a rejection of the offer, rather than to reach a genuine agreement that would end the ongoing genocidal war in the Gaza Strip.
In a press statement, Naim emphasized that Hamas and other resistance factions are committed to reaching a deal that ends the war, not to signing what he described as a surrender agreement.
He explained that the American proposal includes provisions such as the immediate release of all Israeli captives on the first day and an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza contingent upon the formation of a government approved by Israel.
The plan also addresses the fate of Hamas leadership and personnel and demands the disarmament of the resistance, while failing to include any clear commitments to the reconstruction of Gaza, Naim added.
The remarks come in response to a new initiative reportedly presented to Hamas by US President Donald Trump, aimed at facilitating a prisoner exchange deal that would include a ceasefire and the release of Israeli captives. The proposal is seen as an effort to avert a large-scale Israeli ground operation in Gaza City.
