GAZA, (The Palestinian Information Center) Amnesty International has called on Israeli occupation authorities to revoke the mass forced displacement order issued on September 9 against the residents of Gaza City, stressing that the decision comes amid an ongoing military escalation that is worsening civilian suffering during the continuing genocide.
In a press statement on Thursday, the organization described the Israeli military directive to forcibly relocate the city’s residents as “brutal and unlawful,” adding another layer of suffering to the genocidal conditions Israel is imposing on the Strip.
Heba Morayef, Amnesty’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, called the decision a tragic and inhumane repetition of the October 13, 2023 displacement order issued against all residents of northern Gaza. She noted that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been living for nearly two years under relentless bombardment and systematic starvation, forced to remain in temporary camps or overcrowded buildings.
Amnesty International stressed that forcing Palestinians to move within Gaza or deporting them outside the territory is a clear violation of international humanitarian law and amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The organization added that the new displacement order, coinciding with the expansion of Israeli attacks that have destroyed residential towers sheltering thousands of families, demonstrates a deliberate attempt to create living conditions intended to bring about the physical destruction of the Palestinian people.
It emphasized that Israel’s repeated disregard for warnings from humanitarian and rights organizations, as well as its refusal to comply with International Court of Justice orders to ensure aid delivery and protect civilians, is clear evidence of its intent to continue the genocide unchecked.
Morayef said, “It is clear that Israel is intent on erasing Palestinian presence in the Gaza Strip. It is morally unacceptable for influential states to keep supplying it with weapons and diplomatic cover as it commits acts of genocide.”
She further stressed that companies and investors continuing to profit from the war, and countries and corporations arming Israel, are complicit in the crime of genocide. She called on all influential parties to act immediately to halt the military campaign and ensure humanitarian aid reaches civilians in Gaza.
