GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Palestinian Telecommunications Company announced on Friday the gradual restoration of fixed-line and internet services in some areas of southern Gaza. However, it warned that repeated attacks have severely diminished the network’s efficiency.
In a statement, the company said that despite significant risks and extremely difficult field conditions, its teams continue working to restore services across central and southern Gaza.
The company emphasized that the continued targeting of the network is degrading its performance and may eventually render maintenance impossible, potentially leading to a complete outage—especially given the ongoing Israeli closure of border crossings, which has prevented the entry of essential maintenance supplies.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority had previously announced on Tuesday that fixed-line and internet services were once again disrupted in central and southern Gaza due to new damage along one of the main communication routes, caused by the ongoing Israeli assault on the Strip.
The authority confirmed it is closely monitoring the situation with service providers and is continuously assessing the technical condition in order to support efforts to restore services as soon as possible.
On Thursday, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric confirmed that “efforts to repair the damaged fiber-optic cable in Gaza have been impeded, resulting in a major communications blackout for the third consecutive day.” He added that Israeli occupation authorities have obstructed the movement of repair teams trying to locate the break in the fiber-optic line.
He noted that the outage is affecting central and southern Gaza. Until the issue is resolved, “people will be deprived of life-saving information about where to access aid, and our humanitarian teams will remain unable to coordinate or move safely within Gaza.”
Since the Israeli genocidal war began on October 7, 2023, Gaza has suffered more than 16 major communication blackouts, negatively impacting critical sectors such as hospitals, emergency services, and civil defense.
