BEIRUT, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)Two Lebanese were martyred and others were injured in a series of intense airstrikes launched by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) targeting several areas in the eastern part of Lebanon, in the latest violation of the ceasefire agreement.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, the raids were accompanied by low-altitude flights of Israeli warplanes over the Bekaa plain. Loud explosions were heard across the region, with columns of smoke rising from the targeted sites.
In a statement, the IOF claimed that its air force had struck “Hezbollah targets” in the Bekaa area, allegedly based on intelligence provided by the military intelligence directorate (AMAN).
The statement said the strikes targeted a Hezbollah training camp where fighters were reportedly present at the time of the bombardment, alleging that the camp was used for “military training and preparation to plan attacks against Israel.”
The IOF also claimed to have hit “military infrastructure at a Hezbollah precision-guided missile production site” in the Bekaa, as well as additional military locations in the town of Sharbin, in the Baalbek-Hermel district.
The Israeli military further alleged that “weapons storage, the construction of military infrastructure, and conducting training operations against Israel constitute a gross violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon and a direct threat to the state’s security.”
Earlier in the day, Lebanese media reported that Israeli reconnaissance drones had flown at low altitude over Beirut and its suburbs, violating Lebanese airspace in parallel with the bombardment of eastern Lebanon.
These developments come as US envoy to Lebanon Morgan Ortagus is scheduled to visit Israel on Sunday for diplomatic talks aimed at “maintaining the ceasefire and preventing Hezbollah from rearming inside Lebanon.”
