OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Thousands of Muslim worshipers performed on Tuesday the Isha and Tarawih prayers at the Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem on the first night of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to local sources, thousands of Palestinian citizens were able to reach the Aqsa Mosque despite the Israeli restrictions imposed on their entry to the Old City of Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque.
The Israeli occupation police reportedly imposed security measures and movement restrictions in Jerusalem, especially in the Old City and its vicinity.
Footage showed Israeli forces harassing and intimidating Palestinian citizens, subjecting them to humiliating searches, and preventing hundreds from reaching the Mosque for prayers. Police officers also stormed the Mosque’s courtyards during the prayers.
A number of women and men, who were banished from the Aqsa Mosque, performed the nighttime prayers on the streets of the holy city.
Earlier in the evening, Sheikh Mohamed Hussein, Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, announced that Wednesday, February 18, would be the first day of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
