CAIRO (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, who is also the Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, has called for an immediate and unconditional halt to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. He affirmed that the ongoing aggression has exceeded all boundaries of humanity and left no room for life.
His call came alongside his message of congratulations to the Arab and Islamic nations on Wednesday on the occasion of the advent of Eid al-Adha, praying that this occasion returns to all peoples with security and peace.
The Grand Imam emphasized that the continuous aggression on Gaza, which has been ongoing for nearly two years, constitutes a full-fledged crime that has spared neither child, woman, nor elderly person, and has not even left trees or stones unharmed. He described it as a blatant violation of all human and international values and conventions.
He urged the international community and all global and regional powers to fully assume their responsibilities and act urgently to lift the unjust blockade on Gaza, open the crossings to allow humanitarian aid in, and save the innocent who face death under bombing and siege. He stressed the necessity of stopping the aggression immediately and without conditions.
This marks the second consecutive Eid al-Adha in which the people of Gaza are deprived of joy and peace, amid a relentless war that has raged for nearly two years, claimed thousands of lives, displaced millions, and destroyed everything that sustains life.
