Al: Destruction of Khuza’a shows Israel’s intent to erase Gaza through genocide

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Amnesty International has accused Israel of carrying out acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip, citing the complete destruction of the town of Khuza’a in southern Gaza as fresh evidence of a systematic and deliberate campaign to erase Palestinian life.

In a detailed analysis released Friday, Amnesty International said that satellite imagery and verified videos show that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) razed what remained of Khuza’a within a two-week span in May 2025, leaving behind only dust and rubble.

The organization called the destruction “a stark testament to Israel’s ongoing campaign of systematic devastation in Gaza,” and said it reveals a consistent pattern of deliberately targeting critical infrastructure and fertile agricultural land. “This is not random or incidental. It reflects a clear intent to make Gaza unlivable,” Amnesty stated.

Erika Guevara-Rosas, Amnesty International’s director of research, advocacy, policy, and campaigns, emphasized that the scale and precision of the destruction “exceed any conceivable military necessity and indicate a deliberate campaign by Israeli forces to render the area uninhabitable.”

The near-total erasure of Khuza’a requires an independent and impartial investigation, she added, stressing that this “blatant act of unjustified destruction not only represents Israel’s disregard for international law and the basic rights of Palestinians, but also exposes a deliberate plan to turn Gaza into a wasteland.”

Amnesty’s report frames Israel’s actions as part of a broader strategy of collective punishment against Palestinians. It describes an effort to impose living conditions “intended to destroy them physically, in whole or in part”—the legal definition of genocide.

“The goal appears to be the dismantling of Palestinian society itself,” Guevara-Rosas said. “Israel is tearing apart the social fabric of Gaza and subjecting its people to the kind of suffering that meets the threshold of genocide. This must be stopped now,” she added.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s military campaign—backed unconditionally by the United States—has left over 182,000 Palestinians martyred or wounded, the majority of them children and women, according to Palestinian authorities. Over 11,000 remain missing, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced.

Amnesty International urged the international community to take immediate steps to hold Israel accountable and to investigate its crimes under international law
